Dr. Deirdre Cooper Owens is an award-winning historian, professor and one of two Black women in the country running a medical humanities program. She is also the author of Medical Bondage: Race, Gender and the Origins of American Gynecology.

what to expect

This class explores what we really mean by “The Fathers of Gynecology”, how the institution of slavery is so closely linked to gynecological advances in the US, and the impact of our history on our health institutions today.
